I am very new to iOS music and try to spend my bucks wisely. I have lots of apps in my wish list and come across new ones every day. Z3TA+ was just that synth that I came across. YouTube video’s look great and sound wonderful. But the synth is getting a little long in the tooth. ( Old ) without a recent update even for AB3. I also hear that with iOS 11 coming at us, some apps might not work. How would I know if this was one of those? Is the developer still around?
Is it worth the $20 bucks or should I spend it on something like NFM that is more current but lacks some of the features? Or is there something better that I might have missed?
Thanks,

It works on iOS 11, it’s got some awesome sounds, but yeah it’s been abandoned and would be great if it had some iOS integration updates. Not sure if it’s worth the $20 for you, but if you want dutty bass, there are not many on iOS doing it that dutty

Z3TA+ was a great synth until Cakewalk broke the preset export function. (Each time I try to export a preset, the app crashes.) Even worse, they refuse to bother updating it. Believe me, once every 6 or so months, I write Cakewalk a strongly-worded email/Facebook PM, and I get the same canned bullshit response about ’we’re working on other things but we’ll eventually get around to updating z3ta+ for iPad’.
Cakewalk is a music software company, not a group of a couple of independent developers. They produce a LOT of products for PC/Mac which already provide them more than enough sustainable income to continue their development, so they have no excuse to not update ZETA+ on iOS. Right, it hasn’t been updated since January 2015, and yes, it still has that preset export bug. Avoid buying it until Cakewalk gets their heads screwed on straight.
*
Pros
I think Z3ta is a great synth.
It’s not on the ios11 death list.
Cakewalk are still around.
Cons
Cakewalk have pretty much said they won’t be developing it any further.

Been on my list for ages, but haven’t bought as it wasn’t getting updated - and seems now it’s pretty much abandoned.
I had a go at a mates and was really impressed. Came home and delved deeper into Nave - which I already had - and realised I could get a similar sound with that one so never went for Z3ta.

Another plus is that there are literally thousands of amazing presets for it on the net, but you need iTunes to bring them in

I use it on PC and iOS.
It’s genuinely a great synth. Sound designers delight. Excellent deep modulation, engine sounds great etc.
The fact that it should continue to work on iOS 11 is a relief.
As noted already Cakewalk have pretty much abandoned it. I’ve basically had confirmation that no further efforts are going into this anytime soon/probably ever.
Anyway, it’s great. I use it loads. On desktop.
As noted, the preset sharing is incredibly broken.
I bought the desktop version (on a sale) with the notion I ’d make patches on the go and the move them to my desktop projects.
This worked great for a while. Really made it my go to. Then the functionality broke.
BUT it was still possible to transfer files via ifunbox etc. THEN apple closed off the file system further with iOS 9.. I think.
If you jail broke your device it was still possible, but a hassle and there’s now no stable jailbreaks. I have sat transferring parameters across manually. Fuck that.
Z3ta is one of my favourite soft synths ever. Possibly the soft synth pne I’ve sank most time into.
Still, sounds good on iOS as good as on PC; but unlikely to ever be updated .

My Z3TA+ has ’died’, it launches but produces no audio..
Even though it was updated some time ago some kind of time-out is still there what a bummer!!
I doubt this type of ’app behaviour’ complies with the AppStore rules & regulations..

Yep, me too. It’s the time/date bug from before.
The only fix is to manually set the time/date on your iPad to before Feb 2018 then the app will make sound.
But don’t forget to set your date back on your iPad afterward because otherwise all sorts of other things (eg the App Store) stop working when you have an ‘out of date date’.
*
Samu the 1.32 version still works!

Gotcha, but honestly these kind of ’time restricted’ apps should be banned from the AppStore.
Cakewalk is no longer in business and I doubt the new bunch have any plans to maintain the iOS version of Z3TA+ but I’d love to be proven wrong here. At least they could be kind enough to remove the time-limit and upload a new build..

It hasn’t actually been in the store since November, whereas the date bug only turned up on 1 March this year. It’s a pain, but I’ve found myself living with it – and the version before the update (actually the one that started this thread off) doesn’t have the date glitch, though it has others, so if you kept the old .ipa around it should still work. Desktop version not affected and still works great.

That sounds sort of promising..
I wrote them and went back and forth- not about buying the IP but trying to nail down whether they were intending to fix the soft, and it was vague responses alternating with stock corporate brush offs. I didn’t think ill of that, it just seemed as if it was unknown still what was next

I have been pining for this synth on iOS since I got my iPad. I got into iOS synths after the cakewalk implosion. I do have the original on my comp and it is a beast. Honestly, it’s intimidating to me. One of the things that I must conquer. I have been wondering what has happened to the developer Rene, who is tremendous talent and a super guy.
I want this synth!

I reached out to BandLab to by the IP, and they declined as if they might be wanting to reboot it.
